All our Nacional bottles were purchased directly from Quinta do Noval as first-hand stock, with known provenance and storage history. No secondary-market bottles, just the reassurance that these rare Vintages have been properly kept and are in excellent condition. Quinta do Noval Nacional is produced from a tiny parcel of ungrafted vines at the heart of the Quinta do Noval estate. These vines survived phylloxera on their own roots, without American rootstock, giving Nacional its distinctive origin and identity. The Nacional vineyard follows its own rhythm and is not necessarily produced in the same years as Quinta do Noval Vintage Port. The 2001 vintage produced an exceptionally powerful and concentrated Nacional, marked by intense dark fruit, fig, blackcurrant, liquorice, chocolate and spice. Behind the rich fruit lies a firm tannic structure, remarkable freshness and an extraordinary depth that gives the wine exceptional longevity. The 2001 Nacional is particularly notable for its late release. Although officially declared in 2003, Quinta do Noval decided to hold back the 250 cases produced because the wine was initially extremely backward, dense and tannic. After extended ageing, the Port became considerably more approachable while retaining its formidable structure and concentration. Now more than two decades after the vintage, the 2001 Nacional is entering an exceptional stage of maturity. With its tiny production, outstanding critical scores and remarkable ageing potential, it is a highly sought-after collector's Port and one of the most impressive Nacional releases of the early 2000s
