No secondary-market bottles, just the reassurance that these rare Vintages have been properly kept and are in excellent condition. Quinta do Noval Vintage Port is produced from the finest parcels of the Quinta do Noval estate, using traditional Douro varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Sousão and Tinta Roriz. The grapes are foot-trodden in the estate's granite lagares before ageing for 18 months in wooden casks. The 2017 vintage was marked by an exceptionally hot and dry spring and summer, with only around 300 mm of rain from November 2016 until the end of August. Temperatures reached 42–44°C during a heatwave in June, bringing the growing cycle forward by 15–20 days. Despite the extreme conditions, the vines remained healthy and the grapes showed excellent sanitary conditions at harvest. Christian Seely described the 2017s as “among the best that I have known during my time at Quinta do Noval.” The result is a powerful yet remarkably refined Vintage Port, with intense black fruit, violets and spice, supported by dense tannins, excellent structure and a long, persistent finish. The 2017 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port was selected from only 3,500 cases, representing less than 10% of the estate's total Port production.
