No secondary-market bottles, just the reassurance that these rare Vintages have been properly kept and are in excellent condition. Quinta do Noval Vintage Port is produced from the finest parcels of the Quinta do Noval estate, using traditional Douro varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão and Sousão. The grapes are foot-trodden in the estate's granite lagares before ageing in wooden casks. The 2008 vintage was cooler than 2007, with below-average temperatures throughout much of the growing season. Low temperatures during flowering resulted in poor fruit set and consequently very low yields, while the cooler conditions allowed the vines to maintain their foliage and achieve balanced ripening. Harvest began on 10 September and, following rain on 21 September, resumed eight days later in excellent conditions. Christian Seely described the 2008 as “classic Noval, with great depth and harmony”, highlighting the finesse and elegance that characterise the best wines of the estate. The result is an elegant and finely structured Vintage Port, combining intense dark fruit and floral character with firm tannins, freshness and impressive length. The 2008 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port was a very small declaration of less than 1,000 cases, making it one of the rarest Noval Vintage Ports of the period.
