Quinta do Noval 50 Year Old Tawny Port
Quinta do Noval 50 Year Old Tawny Port 98/100 points in Decanter All our Quinta do Noval 50 Year Old Tawny Port bottles were purchased directly from Quinta do Noval as first-hand stock, with known provenance and storage history. No secondary-market bottles, just the reassurance that these rare Ports have been properly kept and are in excellent condition. Quinta do Noval 50 Year Old Tawny is made entirely from grapes grown at Quinta do Noval in Vale de Mendiz, using a traditional Douro field blend including Touriga Nacional, Sousão, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Francesa. The wine is aged exclusively in seasoned 640-litre oak casks, with the blend having an average age of 50 years. The 50 Year Old Tawny was first released in 2024, following the introduction of the 50 Years Old Tawny category under the regulations of the IVDP. After half a century of ageing in wood, a substantial proportion of the wine has evaporated, concentrating the remaining Port and giving it remarkable complexity and depth. Noval describes it as having “a complex intensity of flavours and an austere purity”. The result is an exceptionally complex and refined Tawny, with dried fruits, roasted almonds, cedar, spice and citrus, supported by remarkable freshness, concentration and a very long, precise finish. The current bottling was bottled in 2024.
